Members
School MembershipStudents who are currently on a 10 month training course of Awaken School are assumed to be members of the School. Old students (and those of CTISHP) can apply for membership of the School for an annual fee of £100.
That may seem a lot of money for a membership which is optional (you may already have NHPC membership), and you might wish to consider the benefits of membership of the School.
UKCP CIT - currently, UKCP are running a Candidate in Training scheme, whereby students on the 4 year pathway can demostrate that they are fulfilling UKCP guidelines by registering with them. UKCP insist that any prospective CIT candidate is also a member of a training MO such as awaken School.
Support - as a training school, we do more than sell training places. Currently we are spending a lot of time supporting students through the accreditation route and advising them on APL procedures. School members have use of our time to question and discuss queries they may have.
Discussion groups - We are planning a major revamp of the website in the next few months. School members will have access to discussion forums, special interest groups and resources such as scripts and advice.
Peer Groups - School members can receive advice and support to set up peer support groups to receive mutual help to practice skills, review skills and work towards accreditation.
Trainee Therapist - members who are in their 3rd or 4th year, can apply to be listed on the website as trainee therapists. The idea is that you offer your services to other members of the school (with a discount for other members) and you get to practice skills and increase your hours towards accreditation.
To apply for membership, please download the membership form and return it to the office with your cheque for £100
Assistant ProgrammeWe are keen to develop an active Assistant programme for our courses. Any graduate of a training programme can apply to redo that programme as an Assistant. Your role would be to assist the trainer, sit at the back, join in exercises if required, do teas & coffees, tidy up the venue, chase delegates to keep to time, run errands, and all the other mundane tasks required to support the trainer. Plus you won't get paid !!
On the plus side, you get to revisit the material and gain a greater insight into the content. You get to study group dynamics and model the training by asking the trainer questions you may have. And you have a lot of fun helping new students to discover the programme and learn what you learned when you had fun doing the programme. And you don't get charged for all this insight.
Assisting can count towards CPD and it cannot count towards accreditation.
To apply, please download and complete the Assistant form and return it to the office, indicating venue and course. You will need to be interviewed and accepted onto the programme by the School and the trainer and sorry, its strictly first come, first served. Junior TrainerWe are also keen to develop a Junior Trainer programme to assist the main trainers. As a Junior Trainer, you will have completed Accreditation or be in your final year and have a formal teaching qualification. You will also have completed at least 1 programme as an Assistant.
As a Junior trainer you will be assigned to courses with 10 or more students and be paid £100 per day plus travel expenses. You may, in conjunction with the main trainer, be asked to deliver segments of the programme, and you will be expected to cover for the main trainer should he or she be absent for any reason. If you are covering for the trainer, you will be paid the same rate as the trainer would have got for those days you cover.
As new venues become available, or trainers ask to stop running courses, a replacement will be considered from the pool of Junior Trainers.
To apply to join the Junior Trainer programme, please download and complete the form and return it to the office. You will need to be interviewed and accepted onto the programme by the School and the trainer and you will be offered courses and venues depending on availability and your areas of expertise.
To apply for School membership or to enrol on the Assistant or Junior Trainer programmes, please either download the form and send it, or contact me at the new offices
