As of September 24th, 2009, Awaken School is no longer VAT registered and hence all its programmes are now VAT free.
This means the cost of 20-day FCH, ICH & APP programmes falls from £1897 to £1800 with immediate effect. We are currently reissuing invoices to those students who have already booked onto programmes running now.
We will be altering our information booklets over the next couple of weeks to reflect the change.
As the training element to being placed on the UKCP register as an Adult Psychotherapist, Awaken School runs the following Hypnotherapy and NLP courses in venues around the country.
In addition, we have developed, with the help of Dr. Fran Renwick, a pathway to becoming a Child & Adolescent Psychotherapist.

Foundation in Clinical Hypnotherapy (FCH) - This new 20 day (10 weekend) programme, first run in 2007, is designed to give students a foundation in understanding Hypnotherapy, Hypnopsychotherpy and working with clients. The course covers the basic process of Hypnotherapy, differences between Traditional Models and Ericksonian techniques, plus the study of Metaphor and working with typical issues raised by clients. Graduates will have an excellent grounding in Hypnotherapy and will be well equiped to work with a wide variety of client issues ranging from simple Stop Smoking to stress, anxiety and panic attacks.
The venues for 2010 are: Belfast, Manchester & Newby in North Yorkshire.

Intermediate in Clinical Hypnotherapy (ICH) - This programme, first run in September 2007, is a 20 day (10 weekend) course to provide a second layer of HypnoPsychotherapeutic training to expand both knowledge and practical skills for practicing therapists. It can be used as a second year of training for students who have graduated from the DHP or FCH programmes and individual modules may be taken by practicing Hypnotherapists as CPD. The course covers more advanced Hypnotherapeutic techniques, solution focussed hypnosis and working with more advanced issues such as pain control and cancer. There will also be modules covering both Solution Therapy and NLP.
The next programmes will be in Manchester and Newby, North Yorkshire for 2010.

Practitioner in Neuro-Linguistic Programming (PNLP) - Developed from the pioneering work of such well known therapists as Milton Erickson, Virginia Satir & Fritz Pearls, NLP is rapidly expanding beyond its initial uses in business to be seen increasingly as a modality of psychotherapy. The student will study calibration and rapport, understand states and strategies, and work with Time Codes to offer change.
The programme is available as a 16-day (4 modules of 4 days) programme each Spring and Autumn in Newby, North Yorkshire. Master Practitioner in Neuro-Linguistic Programming (MPNLP) - Only open to students who have completed a Practitioner course in NLP, this course takes and develops the use of Neuro-Linguistic Psychotherapy (NLPt) as a modality of therapy. Students can also take the skills taught and adapt them to work as coaches in the corporate sector.
The programme is available as an 18-day (3 modules of 6 days) course each Spring and Autumn in Newby, North Yorkshire.
Please feel free to download the dates and cost or a full prospectus for the Master Practitioner Neuro-Linguistic Psychotherapy Research and Clinical Practice - as part of UKCP pathway, students are expected to demonstrate knowledge in specific areas including Research Methodology, Human Development, Sexuality, Psychopathology & Ethics. Awaken School has integrated 4 of the topics into the 4 year pathway, with the exception being for Research Methodology and consequently students will require this either through APL or by certification in a suitable training programme.
Awaken now offers a 3-day training programme that teaches students the fundamentals of Research Methodology in a psychotherapeutic setting.
The dates for the next programme are 19th to 21st August 2009 in Newby, North Yorkshire and the cost is £450 including VAT.
This module sits alongside other suitable training organisations such as Beeleaf, the Open University and other UK based universities. Students are at liberty to choose any suitable psychotherapeutic based training, face-to-face or distance learning, that is taught at postgraduate level and equivalent to 20 credits.
Please contact the School before embarking on your Year 2 programme to ensure it fulfils the requirement and this programme will also count toward your 70 hours training required from another school.
Following recommendations from UKCP, students are now also required to complete a 3000 word written assignment during Year 2 comparing and contrasting the hypnopsychotherapy approach with one other major modality e.g. transactional analysis; cognitive behavioural; psychodynamic; psychoanalytic; gestalt; person-centred; etc. Please note that this assignment is in addition to any written work set by their Year 2 training organisation.
In addition, this year provides a springboard for students to start to think about the other elements required for accreditation including the mental health placement and the dissertation. Awaken School are very happy to provide our students with support and guidance. Advanced Patterns in Psychotherapy (APP) - for the 4th year of their training, students come together from the different specialities to study Psychotherapy and its effects with clients. Studying such concepts and transference & counter-transference, boundaries & client risk, use of self and safety, this course will propel students towards accreditation.
Open only by invitation to students who have completed 3 years training and have a minimum of 50 client contact hours.
For 2008 this experiential course will use a mixture of seminars and individual tuition, to tailor learning to student needs and we intend to run the seminars around the country to reduce travelling for students if possible.

Post Graduate Diploma in Child and Adolescent Psychotherapy (PG Dip CAP) - from September 2007, this 4 year pathway is offered for students who want to train as Child and Adolescent Psychotherapists. Each of the 4 layers of training is structured as 20 day (10 weekend) courses and we aim to offer programmes in both England and Northern Ireland. We are currently seeking verification through Section that will allow graduates of the 4 year pathway to be placed on the UKCP Register as Child & Adolescent Psychotherapists. As part of accreditation and ongoing development, therapists and trainees are expected to attend continuous professional development workshops (CPD) to expand and develop their understanding of psychotherapeutic processes.

Certificate in Clinical Supervision
This 3-day intensive plus distance learning programme is designed for accredited psychotherapists and counsellors who wish to develop their skills as supervisors. Successful completion of the course enables delegates to continue onto the Diploma in Supervision programme.
ENTRY CRITERIA: Minimum 1 year post UKCP registration.
The course content will cover the following areas:
- To develop a conscious model and framework for supervision within the hypnopsychotherapy context.
- To understand the key principles of an effective supervisory relationship.
- To develop an integrated understanding of the roles and responsibilities of the supervisor.
- To gain skills in supervising specific clinical work and special gaps such as children and adolescents.

Using NLP, unconscious patterns & metaphor when working with Children in a therapeutic context.
NLP, unconscious patterns and metaphor can ecologically facilitate profound personal change with clients. Crafting those skills for use with children requires an understanding of the development of the psyche through childhood, how identities are formed and the impact that change work can have on the child and the family unit.
Course content includes:
An introduction to child psychological development.
Understanding how children language their problem.
Play as a clue to the child's model of the world.
Using structured and unstructured metaphors.
Resolving negative emotions and limiting beliefs.
Considering whole system interventions.
Working with children with special needs.
The workshop is designed for experienced therapists who work with children in a range of settings. Using previous skills taught, the programme will facilitate the application of your skills with children.

Introduction to Neuro-Linguistic Programming.
This workshop is open to anyone who has an interest in the new change technology that is NLP. It is designed to give you a mixture of ideas and practical skills that will allow you to understand how NLP is described as Modelling Excellence.

How to generate and maintain rapport with others.
Understanding how you and others prefer to receive communication.

How to motivate individuals and organisations through change.

Diploma in Neuro-Linguistic Programming.
This 4 day workshop offers delegates skills and tools of NLP without committing to the time of a full Practitioner programme. You will gain an in-depth introduction to the change technology and be able to use it to enhance your present work.

Therapeutic Storytelling Seminar.
This is a 2 day workshop run by Beeleaf and the emphasis will be on personal identity through story and also on the hypnotherapeutic aspects of pain and stress relief.

APL Procedure
Students who have previous training may apply to have it Approved as Previous Learning (APL) and hence may skip having to resit that year of training with Awaken School.
